A group of farmer organizations, supported by the Ambassadors of Argentina and the U.S.,
organized a side meeting on the role of technology in improving the productivity and
sustainability of agriculture, during the 46thannual meeting of the Committee on World Food
Security at the FAO in Rome on October 14. Mrs. Patience Koku of Nigeria was one of the
speakers. The farmers emphasized the importance of FAO recognizing that all methods of
agriculture (and not just a limited definition of ‘agroecology’) can contribute to food security
and the environment – and that many technologies such as digital farming and improved seeds
(including biotechnology) are scale neutral. A flyer on the event is attached. 350 government
officials, and representatives of the private sector and civil society attended.
