EU Authorizations of GM Events

In the last week of February the European Commission authorized a new GM canola event and renewed the authorization for Liberty Link soy (tolerant to glufosiate), for import, processing and human and animal consumption.  According to CropLife Europe, average EU approvals for import, processing and use in food and feed required less time in 2022. Whereas EFSA’s risk assessments took 4.7 years for products approved in 2020, in 2021 the number was 4.2 and in 2022 3.2. The risk management process took 1.2 years in 2020, 1.1 in 2021 and 0.7 in 2022.
