Batch of GM Crops Authorized for Import by the EU
On the 21st of June 2023, the European Commission authorized a batch of GM crops for import, processing and use in food and feed. These included:
- Renewal of GM soy MON 87701 (Intacta);
- Renewal of GM soy stack MON 87701 × MON 89788 (Intacta x RR2);
- Renewal of GM soy 40-3-2 (Roundup Ready);
- GM corn MON 87429 (herbicide tolerant to glufosinate, glyphosate, dicamba, 2,3-d);
- GM corn MON 95379 (insect resistant -Lepidopteran);
- GM corn DP4114 x MON89034 x MON87411 x DAS-40278-9 (insect resistant and herbicide tolerant stack);
- Renewal of GM cotton 281-24-236 x 3006-210-23.
In addition, several other GM corn events are progressing through the EU’s authorization process, with Member States’ meetings scheduled in the next few weeks for discussions and votes. This concerns the following GM corn crops:
- GM corn stack Bt11 × MIR162 × MIR604 × MON 89034 × 5307 × GA21 and 30 sub-combinations (discussion in Standing Committee, July 3);
- GM corn stack MON 89034 × 1507 × MIR162 × NK603 × DAS-40278-9 and its sub-combinations (vote in Standing Committee, July 3);
- Renewal of GM corn MIR162 (vote in Standing Committee, July 3);
- GM corn stack GA21 X T25 (vote in Appeal Committee on July 6);
- GM corn MON 87419 (vote in Appeal Committee on July 6.
